Across South Yorkshire, we care for around five local cat colonies, providing essential food, shelter, and ongoing support for the cats who live there. Each colony has at least two shelters, hidden from the weather and potential intruders, giving the cats a safe place to rest. Your sponsorship helps ensure these colonies are well-fed, warm, and protected, even in the harshest conditions.
A healthy, well-fed colony not only improves the welfare of the cats, it also helps control vermin around the site and discourages other cats from moving in. That’s why it’s important that colonies aren’t removed if they are safe, with adequate food, water, and shelter. By caring for the colony where they already live, we help it remain healthy and stable for the cats who call it home.
Cats in colonies still face risks — illness, injury, and the challenges of outdoor life. Your support allows us to provide veterinary treatment whenever it’s needed, ensuring sick or injured cats get the care they deserve. Colonies are never static; new cats may arrive seeking food and shelter. We use your contributions to trap, neuter, and return these newcomers, preventing further unwanted litters and helping manage the population responsibly.
Your support helps us provide:
- Wet and dry food for all colony cats
- At least two shelters per colony, hidden from weather and intruders, with straw for warmth
- Veterinary treatment for illness, injury, and ongoing care
- Neutering for new cats arriving at the colonies to prevent unwanted litters
- Ongoing monitoring to ensure colonies remain safe and healthy
